How To Clean Microfiber Cloths (Keep Them In Top Shape!)

Microfiber cloths are a lifesaver when it comes to collecting dust and cleaning. Also, they are a great way to stop wasting paper towels. Nevertheless, it is important to know how to keep your microfiber cloths in good shape to maintain their effectiveness.

Here’s how you can keep your microfiber cloths as good as new.

Are you wondering why your microfibers do not smell right? Microfibers can accumulate moisture that can trap and multiply bacteria easily. It is important to wash them regularly. Here are two ways you can do that:

Method #1. Washing by hand

1. Fill your sink or a big bowl with warm water and add 2 tbsp of laundry detergent. 
2. Let microfibers soak in the water for about 15 minutes. Shake the water to release any dirt still attached to the cloth.
3. Grab the ends of each cloth and rub them against each other to remove tough stains.
4. Squeeze the liquid out of all your cloths separately to remove as much liquid as possible.
5. Rinse them by putting them under the running water and rubbing them against each other.
6. Squeeze each cloth separately to remove as much water as possible.

Method #2. Washing machine 

This way is much simpler and gives you time to do other activities.

1. Make sure to separate your microfiber cloths to prevent them from attracting lint, hair, or other particles that your laundry may have. Plus, not separating them can make your clothes dirtier. 
2. Remove stains by using a stain remover of your choice directly onto the stain, then throw them into the washing machine. 
3. If your microfibers have tougher stains, prepare your washing cycle to warm water. If they are slightly dirty, you can use cold water.
4. Add about 2 tbsp of laundry detergent and start the cycle. Do not use too much detergent, or it may not rinse out of the cloths and will make them less efficient when it comes to collecting dust.

Tip: If you want to make sure you eliminate nasty smells from your microfibers, add one tablespoon of white vinegar to the washing machine, and it will take care of the unpleasant odors. 

Don’t forget to dry

After you’ve completely squeezed the water out of your cloths, you can hang them on a line outside or near a window so the sun can finish the job. 

Also, if you don’t want to bother or don’t have enough space to line dry your cloths, you can use a drying machine instead. This is the easiest way to dry your cloths; just throw them into your drying machine at a low temperature, and that’s it! 

How to make microfiber cloths last longer

• Trim loose threads that may become ragged with time.
• Store them in a drawer or sealed container to prevent them from attracting dust or lint from their surroundings.
• Avoid heat as it can deform the synthetic fibers.
• Do not use dryer sheets or any other additive to your washing/drying process since a microfiber uses static clinginess to attract dust, and the additives or dryer sheets will do the opposite effect.
• DO NOT USE BLEACH. Bleach can damage the microfibers and will make it useless for collecting dust.
